Does student integration in schools matter in order to ensure educational equity ?

Student integration in schools DOES matter in order to ensure educational equity because in order for everyone to achieve this idea of fairness, all students of different races should be able to learn from each other. Although this idea is not practiced, it is necessary because when a child of any age begins school and is exposed to other children of many different ethnic groups, genders and skin tones, we cannot automatically expect this child to not make any assumptions about the other children of a different race. Integration allows the child to comprehend that it is okay to develop friendships with anyone; it also teaches them at a young age that people with different physical appearances do exist outside of their community. Is it the most important issue we must fix ? Not exactly, but I do believe that this is a major step in creating a fair education system. Educating children at a young age and showing them that as young get older, there are numerous cultures that we can learn from is essential because it makes them less judgmental and more open-minded when put in a place with multiple ethnic groups. Lastly, the GO Project models this because although some classrooms may not have a lot of diversity, the children see staff and other children that are of different races therefore allowing them not to question their own classmates and learn equally.
