Affirmative Action
Although I argued against affirmative action in the critical conversation and was able to understand the flaws of this system, I remain pro affirmative action. With educational equity being a huge issue in society, I think that affirmative action helps level out the playing field. It gives those who have been subject to discrimination in the past a boost so that the playing field can hopefully be leveled in the future. Like Jeff Duncan-Andrade explained in his Ted Talk, when the education system helps provide opportunities for students in these struggling situations, they can go on and receive a higher education, and come back and help those who were once in their position. Affirmative action can break this vicious cycle that minorities are often subject to and helps create diversity and break stereotypes.
