Affirmative Action
I don't believe affirmative action should be eliminated. Affirmative action is meant to provide equal opportunity in the work force, educational world, etc. for genders, races, sexualities, religions, etc. that are not as privileged in America as white, heterosexual, Christian males of the Upper-Middle Class. Affirmative action helps people who do not have the same resources and abilities get jobs and a quality education. Before affirmative action was established, there was rarely a minority or woman accepted in to high profile colleges and universities, and now they have higher chances (but still at a disadvantage to whites and males). The practice of affirmative action could be tweaked and strengthened to stray away of the social stigmas of just filling quotas or people only being accepted in places solely because of their race. The intent of affirmative action and how it is carried out in practice differ. If we could find a way to enforce affirmative action without treating minorities as numbers and as people who deserve the same amount of opportunities and resources, then everything would be set. But eliminating affirmative action will not solve some of the problems and social stigmas surrounding it. It will only further enforce the barrier between minorities and majorities in the work force, education world, and even society.
