Emily - Affirmative Action

Based off of the beliefs that have been instilled in me growing up and last weeks debate, I believe that affirmative action 100% matters when striving for a goal as big as educational equity. We live in a world where no one is guaranteed equal opportunity, and affirmative action gives hope to minority groups and women who tend to be oppressed, which leaves them to be overlooked in cases such as applying for a job or getting into a school. Affirmative action causes colleges to reach out to the oppressed groups of students and offer them things like financial aid to help them grow as learners. It doesn’t ensure a spot at a college/university or give someone a job simply because diversity is needed. Affirmative action means a lot to those underrepresented groups and it is a necessary step towards achieving educational equity.
