Integration - Bennett Slibeck

When addressing the problem of giving every American child a quality education, integration is not necessary.  In order to give every child a perfect education integration would be completely necessary, as it would prepare children for the diverse world in which we live; however a perfect education would be unrealistic and too highly individualized to be implemented. So instead we must focus on the idea of giving every child a quality education; a much more reasonable goal.  Diversification of the American public school system is certainly important and an issue that should be resolved but it falls in order of necessity behind other issues like the equalization of funding and the need for teachers who want to teach and can make students want to learn. Diversity in a classroom can help spread new ideas and perspectives but before that kids need to be taught how to think critically, and to understand what they are being taught, not just be able to spit it back out every week on a test. Before a child can share their individual opinion they need to be in a classroom that encourages thought, that encourages the desire to learn. School must become something that kids look forward to in order to learn, not just a place that they can go to see friends. In conclusion, Diversity must happen if we are to have a perfect education but it is not necessary for a quality one.
