Does Student Integration Matter in Schools in Order to Ensure Educational Equity?

I believe that student integration is essential in schools in order to ensure educational equity. Some can say that integration isn't essential in schools as long as one can provide each school with the same resources and what not. But without the student diversity it would turn out that the schooling system be exactly the same as the schooling system during segregation; separate but equal. That just doesn't happen. Schools need student diversity in order to provide minority students with a lot of the same opportunities as majority students. Not only does a diverse student body expand the networking of a student, it also provides everyone other student that is not the same race or ethnicity as that student with precious knowledge of their culture. Student are able to learn about the backgrounds of other students, the way they grew up, the foods they eat, their cultural norms, the languages they speak and so on. Things like this expand the mindset of a student, making them more open minded to other things as well. Another reason why student diversity and integration in essential in schools is because once you weave in students of different races you begin to break down the wall that is prejudice and stereotypes. Once stereotypes and prejudice is out of the way student will be able to focus more on their education as opposed to continuously thinking about their inferiority or superiority.
