Does student integration in schools matter in order to ensure educational equity?
Student integration in schools is a factor in educational equity. A diverse group of kids come from different backgrounds thus, different opinions. The fact that the people think differently provides a challenge for the kids allowing them to expand their minds. They begin to create new opinions and ideas based on real life experiences which they learned from their peers. Also with more diversity come more benefactors. The majority of wealthy people are white. The schools that have the least funding are the schools with a lot of minority children. Schools need money to be able to supply the students the resources necessary to ensure a good education.
My main issue with this is is it actually possible to integrate the school. I believe that this is not possible. It is a quixotic idea because we cannot force people to go certain schools and also there is not an equal amount of people of every ethnicity in New York City. However, we can to our best to try to share resources or find other ways for people from different backgrounds to meet and interact. Everyone deserves an equal chance but as we all know this is not a reality. More programs such as GO Project should be created to try to increase this chance of an equal education. There is so much we can do to improve our education system.
